Following a meeting with emergency responders and agencies at the Spring Mill Street site, Imran Hussain MP has praised the work of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Yorkshire Police in limiting the impact of the blaze and keeping local residents safe.

Imran visited the site on Thursday 19 November and met with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters and West Yorkshire Police officers fighting the fire, along with staff from Bradford Council, the Environment Agency and Public Health England monitoring the impact of the fire.

During these meetings, Imran received updates from senior officers and officials on the work of the different organisations and agencies in extinguishing the fire and in protect residents and the local environment, and pressed them on how they were working to keep people living in the area safe reduce the impact on the environment.

Speaking on his visit to the Spring Mill Street fire site, Imran said:

“Over the last five days, firefighters, police officers and Bradford Council staff have been on-site to extinguish this blaze and protect residents, and I want to thank them for their exemplary response and hard work in extremely adverse and dangerous circumstances to ensure that residents are kept safe.

“Having visited the site it is clear that whilst the damage has been considerable, it could have been so much worse with other nearby properties and residential areas a short distance away, and the emergency services should be praised for being able to limit the impact of this fire to the extent that they have.

“Whilst I understand that the fire has now largely been extinguished, dangers still exist at the site and the health and wellbeing of residents must remain our key priority, and I am continuing to push for thorough health impact assessments from the Environment Agency and Public Health England.”
